The Bergman family fell in love with this site, leading to its acquisition in 2013. Since then, they have channelled collective energy and individual talents into the project, convinced of the singular qualities of this historic voice of Napa viticulture.
The family has been involved in all aspects of the project at every stage of its development. They firmly believe that stewardship should be an act of listening and of giving back to the site.
An esteemed vineyard architect, farmer and pioneer of Napa Valley, David Abreu is renowned for planting and growing fruit for Napa’s most iconic vineyards. His viticultural philosophy and meticulous, detail-driven approach to vineyard management have been honed on Napa’s most exclusive hillside and mountain vineyards.
David’s immediate affinity with Bergman was born from a shared conviction in the uncommon potential of the site, held deep in its volcanic bedrock. His unconditional commitment to making wine at the highest level resonates with the family’s long-term vision.
With a truly international outlook, Nigel Kinsman is leading Napa Valley into a new era of precision winemaking that puts sense of place above all else.
After two decades at leading Australian and Tuscan estates, opportunity drew Nigel to California where he became winemaker for the legendary Eisele Vineyard. Since then, he has pursued his own creative and entrepreneurial path with Kinsman Eades, alongside highly selective consultancy projects.
Nigel practices a winemaking ethos of obsessive attention to detail. He fine-tunes a vibrant dialogue between mountain and valley to craft wines of raw harmony, with signature tension.
David joined the Bergman team in 2022, bringing with him an abundance of winemaking and cellar experience. He immediately played a crucial role in the newly constructed cave, with a perspective on wine shaped by his prior career as a sommelier.
David gives his time and energy unreservedly to the estate, overseeing day-to-day production as well as ranch management. He is a key member of the Bergman team and, by extension, part of the family.
